Effect of Transplanting Time , Fruit Set and Thinning Method on the Growth and Yield in Pepino (Solanum muricatum Ait .)

Abstract
This experiment was carried out to clarify the optimum time for transplanting pepino (Solanum muricatum Ait.) in the field, and to determine number of fruit set per cluster by thinning method.
Early transplanting on April 15 resulted in the highest yield (1,450§¸/l0a) and the heaviest fruit (100g). Late transplanting on June 15 resulted in the lowest yield (95§¸/l0a) with less days to flower and higher growing degree days than early transplanting. Biggest fruits were set on the first cluster, and one or two fruits per cluster was found to be optimum number to produce heavier fruits (300¡370g).
